Soften to Expand: Finding our footing under the Sagittarius New Moon

Sailing ship "Hawaiian Chieftain" with beige sails on open sea at sunset. Calm waters, warm hues, and a serene atmosphere.

“We’re so focused on trying to grit our way through things

that we forget…

Sagittarius wants us to expand.

And you can’t expand when you’re clenched.”

Navigating the Seas of Doubt

There’s a full pile-up in Sagittarius this New Moon. Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus—all squished together near the final degrees of the sign. But what’s loudest to me isn’t just this cluster. It’s what they’re squaring.

Neptune and Saturn, now direct in Pisces, are casting a long shadow here. Mercury is also squaring the Nodes, and it just exited its shadow. The dream is faltering. The vision may feel clouded. There’s faith, but it’s being tested.

Woman with red hair in ponytail looks up, wearing black top and earrings, against a blurred forest background. Warm, contemplative mood.

We’ve built expectations, set goals, and mapped out how we thought the end of the year would unfold… yet the results just aren’t matching up. For many of us, it feels as if the foundation we thought was solid has crumbled beneath us.

Where’s the footing? Where’s the forward motion?

This lunation brings a disconnect between expectation and reality. And yet, right in the middle of the discomfort, there’s a shimmer:

a trine to Chiron. A signal that healing, honest, wild, Sagittarius-style healing, is available if we’re willing to soften our grip.

Key Takeaways for this New Moon in Sagittarius

• New Moon, Sun, Venus, Mercury in Sagittarius — pile-up of idealism, dreams, pressure

• Square to Neptune & Saturn in Pisces — dreams not matching reality, disappointment, disorientation

• Mercury square the Nodes — mindset shift required

• Trine to Chiron in Aries — healing through independence and truth

• Jupiter in Cancer — retreating inward to find emotional resilience and trust

Mother's Mirror: Weathering the Storms

Woman with red hair holding a child in a forest. She's wearing a white dress with blue floral patterns. The mood is calm and affectionate.

You know what this moon feels like? Tantrum energy.

My boys are two and three. When one of them hits that emotional limit (stomping, screaming, sobbing uncontrollably), I used to feel the need to shut it down. To fix it. To “correct” it. Because somewhere in my past, I wasn’t allowed to express wild, raw emotion when I was growing up.

It took real inner work for me to remember: all shades of their emotion are perfectly okay. They’re supposed to feel BIG things. My job isn’t to stop that. My job is to be a soft place to land.

So instead of trying to hush it or punish it away, I sit down. I open my arms and say, “I’m right here. I’m here with you. Are you ready for a hug?” And then I pause. I let them feel their 90 seconds of intense emotion until they collapse in my arms.

I swear, the shift that happens when I soften is immediate.

This New Moon is teaching me, and maybe you too, that the same goes for us adults. We don’t need to shut down our own emotional outbursts. We need to witness them. We need to weather them. The emotional flood doesn’t mean you’re off course. It means the dam is cracking… and light is trying to get through.

Sailing with the Current

What if your grip is the thing holding you back?

This lunation is a test of flexibility.

A surrender of expectations.

A chance to let go of control; not to give up, but to open.

Ask yourself:

Where am I gripping too tightly to a dream, a result, or a belief?

• What would it feel like to soften—even just 10%?

• Can I trust the signs, even if they’re not delivering what I expected?

• What is my mindset doing to either liberate or limit me right now?

Remember: Sagittarius wants us to see the big picture.

To lift our head out of the weeds.

To trust there’s more unfolding than we can currently perceive.

You’re not behind.

You’re not broken.

You’re becoming.

So… remember to breathe.

Soften.

See what opens.
